Thirteen aspiring hair and makeup artists started their bid for an $18,000 scholarship with the Cut Above Academy on Maori TV on Saturday July 9. Each week the 13 contestants compete in different hair and makeup challenges before facing the judges for some home truths as one of them is sent home.
The winner will not only receive a full scholarship, they will also six weeks' work experience in the Maori TV makeup department and a year's supply of Matrix hair products.
The judging panel is led by Cut Above alum and Maori TV's makeup team leader Bianca Fallon, and will be joined each week by an industry expert and a celebrity judge.
Each episode also features an interactive tutorial so that viewers at home can put the techniques covered into action.
See how the 13 contestants fare in Head Start, showing on Maori TV Saturdays at 7pm.
